Comment différencier brand content et content marketing ?

Commençons par deux définitions pour clarifier ce que sont le content marketing et le brand content. 

Brand Content : C’est un contenu centré sur l’entreprise, pour valoriser son image, son histoire et ses valeurs. 

Content Marketing : C’est un contenu destiné à plaire à la cible de l’entreprise, non pas axé sur la marque mais sur les utilisateurs. 

Par ces deux définitions, vous pouvez déjà vous apercevoir que ce sont deux contenus qui se distinguent. En effet, leurs objectifs de communication ne sont absolument pas les mêmes. D’un côté, le brand content a pour vocation d’améliorer sa notoriété en faisant adhérer sa communauté à ses valeurs ; et de l’autre le content marketing sert à convaincre les utilisateurs d’agir et d’acheter. 

Du coup, les moyens mis en oeuvre pour arriver à ce but sont également différents. Dans une stratégie de brand content, on préferera miser sur un storytelling axé sur l’histoire de la marque, ou sur des publireportages dans des magazines qui mettront en valeur l’entreprise et ses actions. Pour du content marketing, on préfèrera des articles courts et marquants, des pages web optimisées pour l’acquisition, une forte présence sur les réseaux sociaux et du rich media (contenus visuels, vidéos…).

Par exemple, si vous êtes une entreprise familiale installée depuis 10 générations, le brand content paraît complètement adapté. Il permettra de mettre en avant les valeurs fortes de votre marque. Cependant, cela ne vous empêche pas d’utiliser le content marketing en complément, dans le cadre d’une opération commerciale ou d’une offre promotionnelle. De la même façon, si vous êtes une start-up, rien ne vous empêche d’utiliser le brand content dans le cadre d’une campagne publicitaire. 

En fait, ces deux stratégies peuvent servir l’intérêt de votre marque, quelle qu’elle soit. Vous n’obtiendrez pas les mêmes résultats que vous choisissiez l’une ou l’autre, mais ce sont des techniques équivalentes. Les deux questions qui suivent paraissent peut-être cliché, mais pourtant elles résument bien l’objectif fondamental qui se cache derrière chacune de ces stratégies.
